Michael J. Cornwell, M.D. - Philadelphia
We are very pleased to announce that Michael J. Cornwell, M.D., board certified by the American Board of Surgery, has affiliated with Bosley.

Dr. Cornwell received his M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington D.C. in May 1993, four years after receiving his B.A. from Yale. At Howard, Dr. Cornwell served as Anatomy Instructor for the summer in 1990. In 1991, he received the Academic Achievement Award for academic excellence in the first two years of medical curriculum. He was a visiting researcher at the National lnstitute of Health, Cancer Institute, Clinical Pharmacology Branch, Bethesda, during that summer. In 1992, he received the Dr. Claude L. Cowan Pioneer Award for academic excellence, service to the community and to the College of Medicine. In 1993, he received the Dr. Charles R. Drew Surgical Award for outstanding performance in the surgical clerkship and was also accepted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Cornwell completed his Residency in General Surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta and then became Chief Resident. He completed a traveling fellowship in General Surgery at Hospital Dr. Carlos A. Bocalandro in Buenos Aires.

Dr. Cornwell joined DeKalb Surgical Associates in Decatur, Georgia in 1999 and became a partner in 2002. At DeKalb, Dr. Cornwell had a broad-based general surgical practice which included breast care, laparoscopic surgery, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, vein care (percutaneous) and laser-based cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Cornwell is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the Atlanta Medical Association, the DeKalb Medical Society and the Georgia Surgical Society.
